Welcome to Dorothy: Locked & Loaded

Author Note to Readers:

This online novel was first started in May 2010; it continued on and off for two years and wrapped up in July 2012. The authors included my friends Val, James, and Tomi, and I myself wrote five or six different parts, taking on the part of Dot herself after that author left. Val wrote The Cowardly Lion. James wrote The Scarecrow. Tomi wrote The Tin Man. I wrote Glinda and the Narrator episodes, Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, any other characters, and again Dot later when that author left the project.

This entire project was put together WITHOUT a script. Each writer was given a character and told to run with it. I gave no direction during almost the entire two year project and simply let the authors slowly bring their characters, who had spread to the four winds, so to speak, following the Wizard of Oz events and the downfall of the Scarecrow’s regime. The authors simply wrote who their characters were after those events and weaved in some original lore from the Oz books by L. Frank Baum.

I’m bringing the story back on my website this year!

As you will see, if you stick around, most of the main characters from The Wizard of Oz took a turn for the worse after Glinda became the ruler of Oz, and a lot of the writing has to do with the trauma they suffered and how they worked to redeem themselves. It wasn’t planned; this is simply a product of the authors wanting to explore ideas or even work through personal issues, as authors are wont to do in their writing. The themes are adult, and unabashedly so. Expect adult content — murder, sex and erotic themes, drug use, mental illness, substance abuse and personality disorders. Oz after Dorothy Gale is a fucked up place, and we’ll see if that changes during the course of our story, or not.

Each episode offers a title, the perspective (Narrator, Tin Man, Dot, etc.), and then the episode number (from 1 to 136/finale), so that should be enough to keep things straight — who is the subject of each part and what order everything is in. I just want to make sure this is as seamless and enjoyable as possible. Keep in mind that almost all of the episodes are told from the 1st Person perspective, so the titles matter.

So, you’ll have 136 episodes and nearly a dozen main and secondary characters to read about. This journey to Oz is not what you expected, and we’re happy it turned out that way.

Welcome back to Oz!
